Hand hold please, elderly dog. Waiting for surgeon's opinion.

DDog1, 16, has broken her hind leg. Waiting to hear if the orthopaedic surgeon thinks she can do anything.
Was staying quite positive for the dc & DH but am having a wobble
Can anyone share stories of old but well dogs coping with surgery etc?
Want to be more cheerful when the older DCs get home (assuming no bad news from vets)

Sleight, so pleased that my story helped. That was my intention. It can be daunting to plan PTS but I think it helps to know of other's experience.
Love to meet on Box Hill! Polesden Lacey was the first place I took Sam off lead, and at 3 he could give a greyhound a run for its money!
I have just sent the form off to Foster for ESS welfare, which seems to me a good choice at the moment. I am one that cannot bear a house without a dog in it.

I've lurked for years and remember Val's threads when we got our first girl. I'm not sure where or why she went but I'm so glad you're still here.
There'll be a couple of new hounds here by spring - girl in Jan to settle in then a goofy boy to be bossed!

Sleight of course PM me. New Year would be good! My application now posted. Partner supportive of fostering role, which is good as he is less doggy - used to complain about the abundance of dog hair, which I hardly noticed. But I think he misses Sam too.

Just caught up with this and I'm so, so sorry for you. Scuttle's post nearly made me cry, the thought of losing a dog like that. At least you can take comfort in the fact that yours didn't suffer like that. Scuttle, no words, must have been awful.

It was two years on Tuesday since we lost our old boy. New boy fills the doggy shaped hole but it's like having kids isn't it? You can love more than one at a time even if you feel guilty about it.
