Poo!!

Punterlab is 4 years old and has always had soft, sometimes very soft, poos and is on a light digestion kibble for this reason. Vet said that sometimes this is the way dogs are. Punterlab has had a couple of attacks of colitis after snaffling stuff in the bushes both of which responded to the usual vet medicines. The odd thing is that when he sometimes eats deer poo, or rarely horse poo, he becomes much firmer and 'normal'. Does this suggest something missing in his diet? Like veg?! He also eats grass but I see a lot of labs do this. Any ideas? Or shall i just let him gobble the deer poo.

I know it's not for everyone but have you considered raw?
Lots of places do convenient sausages pre made with the right combination of meat offal and bone.
I buy free flow mince with bone which is frozen and I weigh it out into sandwich bags. I just get the next meal out to defrost when the last one is eaten.
It's not as faffy as it sounds and guarantees firm poo.

Our dog tends to have similar issues. Grain-free didn't seem to make any difference, but chicken-free does. I feed him beef-based kibble now and everything is quite a bit firmer! Although if he really runs around like a maniac on a walk it still tends to upset his digestion a bit.

Some vets are hopeless on nutrition. Really. It's really worth trying a different food - check the ingredients list on the bag and avoid the generic term 'cereals', also wheat, barley, maize, beef and chicken - they are the most common culprits. Also pick one that says it only has natural ingredients in it. So lamb and rice, or duck and potato - something like that - but check the ingredients list because some still sneak in wheat and barley and what-not too.

We had that too. Our cockapoo with a sensitive digestion was on Eden & I think it had too much meat in it. He's now on 60/40 kibble (either Lily's or Acana) with some Forthglade mixed into it. The change in his poo is remarkable!

We had Eden too and his poo was slop for months. Firmed up 2-3 days into Millie's.

Recently forgot offer Millie's and had to find an alternative for a few days and switched to Wainwright's grain free, the smell was terrible and the poo, although formed was large and soft. Binned the rest of the bag as soon as the Millie's arrived.
