Puppy peeing for treats!

OK, I know this has been discussed plenty of times but I'm at my wits end!

My puppy is now 16 weeks and I'm still struggling with house training. I've had dogs before and never had any problems (i trained my border collie in a week!)

Puppy knows to go outside, if I let her out she immediately goes to the loo and runs over to me for her treat and over enthusiastic praise. Unfortunately this seems to be working against me. She is now only going outside when I'm there and she watches me to make sure I can see her so she knows she'll get her treat! It's like she's performing for me simply to get the treat, so much so that she'll pee 3 or 4 times in a row and run over to me each time.
If I leave her in the kitchen to go shopping or even upstairs to the bath, I get back to find she's gone inside, even if I've left the back door open. She won't go outside unless she's being watched! And this morning (she'd been fed and gone outside) I was making a coffee and she peed on the kitchen rug - with me right next to her! How can I get her to see she ONLY goes outside? Should I stop the treats?

I posted this a while ago and got no replies so I'm trying again!

I have now bought a cage to put her in overnight and when she's alone, my idea being it would teach her to hold her bladder rather than going immediately she needed to. It has worked to a certain extent as she doesn't go in the cage but she'll still go inside if she escapes upstairs or is left out of the cage and needs to go. She's still peeing 3 or 4 times everytime I take her out just to get loads of treats but doesn't seem to want to go outside if there's no one there to give her the treats - if I leave the back door open while I'm upstairs she sometimes still goes inside.

Any tips please?!

She may have a UTI. When my dog was a pup, she peed constantly and vet wanted a urine sample which showed she had a UTI. Course of antibiotics worked.

She's still very young and training may just take longer for her than your previous dog - I take it she's more or less 4 weeks older than at your original post - are you still letting her out as frequently? She might just be one of those dogs that takes a while to understand what's required.

I wouldn't treat her for every single wee. If she wees three times when you take her into the garden, I'd still only give her one treat, keep her guessing as to when she'll gets treats so she doesn't come to expect it and it really is a treat rather than a case of 'right I've weed know hand over the goodies'.

How is she behaving when she's on a walk, does she wee a lot when on walks and does she get treat for weeing then. I think I'd be encouraging weeing on walks.

Agree with Ozzie, if she's weeing a lot perhaps get her checked to make sure there's no problem.

Pigs you're exactly right with "hand over the goodies" it's exactly what she does! Last night (after 3 pees and 3 treats) I got distracted and didn't notice a 4th pee. She actually jumped up and down in front of me and barked to tell me she had peed and wanted her treat!

Yes she does pee while out on walks but not as much. I praise her but wasn't giving her a treat then, I'll start doing that. And Ozzie thank you, I might take her to the vet to check for any infection, I never thought of that, I just assumed she could only be bothered going outside for a treat!

To be fair she has got a lot better since my original post but I still wouldn't feel comfortable leaving her free to roam the house just yet!

And yes I am still taking her out frequently although (sometimes!) she has started sitting at the back door when she needs to go which is great. So maybe I'm on the right track and it may just take a bit more time.

I think you have a bright dpup to have figured this out she's defo not daft!

I had one that just wanted to please and wld pee just for the praise! But I was litter box training indoors so it didnt really matter thankfully.

On the putting outside the 'treat' is being let bak in! being strict with every half hour or immediately on waking and post each feed
