Suggestions for suitable second dog please

Punterlab is now 4 and we are (mostly) past the mad puppy stages. He gets on really well with other dogs including my daughter's jack russell crosses. Any suggestions for the breed of second dog - I would like a smaller dog than a lab but not too keen on terriers. We are both retired so I think he gets bored with just being at home with us!

If you could look at a rescue dog, you may find your dog has a soulmate. Our second rescue was chosen by the first and it was love at first bite sight. Most rescue organisations are really good at pairing up people and dogs with dogs. I think we were just lucky that one of our younger dogs adores the puppy. I know a gorgeous JRT/staffie. I have come across lots of lovely staffie crosses. It depends so much on what you want out of a dog. Some dogs were initially bred as hot water bottles. I have lived with gundogs and terriers and now herding dogs, and I am in no position to reccomend a breed! Norfolk/Norwich terriers are also fabulous. It really depends so much on what you want and expect from another dog.

How about a cocker spaniel? We just got a puppy, and I must say she's the easiest puppy ever! We also got a lab and a collie, she fits in great with them

I was going to say a spaniel. Look at spaniel aid uk, they have a variety of different dogs, all ages & personalities. We have just adopted from them & the whole process was very easy & professional.

Not all spaniels are exercise mad either. The SAUK Facebook page is brilliant.

How about a Staffie?
They are really loving, gentle and loyal dogs. Eager to please.
Confident, intelligent and playful.
