Dust mites, washing dog's bedding at 40 degrees

Dog is showing signs of allergies - possibly seasonal or maybe dust mites. The vet has suggested for now monitoring it over winter to see if symptoms calm down (thus suggesting seasonal allergies) and also to wash her beds and blankets at 60 degrees weekly in case of dust mite allergy.

The problem is that her stuff has to be washed at 30 or 40 degrees as this is what the labels dictate. Has anyone any suggestions on anything I can put in the machine along with washing powder to help kill dust mites at a lower temperature? I've seen a Dettol washing liquid product - not sure of that would work?

If i is only a dog blanket...I would bung it on at 60. Might be different if made of angora!

Thanks. I've washed the blankets at 60 - they survived! Her numerous beds (she has them dotted all round the house!) will need to be 40 I think or they'll lose their shape. I've washed them with the Dettol stuff for now.

60*C will destroy all the proteins anything less won't, so some though creatures might survive!

We always wash the dogs beds and blankets at 60- they all survived. We just ignore the labels!

Oh thanks, I'll give them a go at 60 in that case. I did end up finding an allergen laundry detergent online as well.

For dust mites remember to wash every 3 days to prevent more arriving and freeze all soft toys once a week for 24hours.

Oh gosh really? I didn't know about the freezing thing.

Can you machine wash the soft toys instead?

Soft toys you need to freeze washing doesn't deal with the eggs in them properly.

For what it's worth - my dog's dermatologist told me not to bother trying to get rid of the dust mites, as I'd never get them completely and it's easier and more succesful to just treat the allergy.

One of my dogs has allergies, we're not totally sure what to. The vet said the fibres in fleeces and blankets may cause reactions, especially in red toned colours. He said use older fabric, like old sheets, in white or pale colours that can be washed at high temperatures.
