Fleas :(

My dog has fleas :( it's our fault as we got behind on our advocate during the end of my pregnancy and early newborn days. I realised we'd forgotten about 2 weeks ago and so treated him with advocate but in the last week have found several fleas on him and me :(

What's the best course of action? Should I give him advocate again even though he's not due it again for another couple of weeks or do we need to get special shampoo?

Planning on going to pet shop to ask but it's a bit of a mission to leave the house at the moment so wanted to get some advice first! Thanks

We use Advocate, on prescription from the vet, and he's said in the past that it shouldn't be used before it's due.
You could phone your vet for advice.

You poor thing. I hope you are ok. There is a lot of information out there about getting rid of fleas. You will need to clean your house as well as you can ahem in this house. There are products you can spray all over the place. If you have a steamer, I expect it would do fleas no good at all. Wash all the covers you can. Speak to your vet to make sure your dog is covered. It will pass.

I never use spot ons. The few times my dogs have got fleas (twice or three times max that I recall in 14 years) I buy 3 big cans of the flea house spray, I wash the dogs, comb them through with a flea comb, wash all their bedding on a high temp and strip our bed too, spray the entire house (including curtains and all soft furnishings) and once all the washed stuff is dry give that a little spray too.... leave the house for the afternoon (lol) and hey presto, that does the trick.

But whatever you do, do it quickly. Fleas can multiply quickly and lay thousands of eggs.

Oh and one of my friends also puts a flea collar in her hoover to see off any that get sucked up. Cunning plan.

It's not so much the smell as the fumes... and they can't be good for anyone's health. It should say how long to stay away from it on the can. I staggered it throughout the day, doing a room at a time.

Fleas have been a bugger for the past couple of years. My dogs and cats aren `program each month, but this just renders fleas sterile (allegedly!). I also spray the house with Indore and hoover all over every day. Sodding cats still bring fleas in and they get onto the dogs. Cats don't seem to find the fleas a nuisance but my poor dogs are scratching like billy-o!

We had a Flea Issue earlier in the year. I had to evacuate everyone and then sprayed RIP Fleas through the whole downstairs. It did the job and helpfully also eradicated other creepy-crawly life for a few months too
