What happens now?

My dog ran through my MIL's open front gate and had a scrap with an on-lead dog that happened to be directly opposite. Recall worked well, he returned instantly.

MIL's dog also ran out & is well known for 'high jumping'. She has been known to jump over the head of a standing 5'7" person.

At the vets this morning and I expressed concerns that my dog is nervous aggressive, that walking him is not enjoyable and I enquired as to what could be done.

Previously tried Adaptil, hormone drugs, antidepressants & a few other things including therapist. Nothing worked so now Walk him with a Gentle Leader, praise the good behaviour and keep a very vigilant eye. He loves humans, no issue there.

Just hot back from vets now to find a letter from the 'attacked' dog saying she is so traumatised she will never walk past MIL's property again, she has changed her walk & replrted both dogs to the police.

Can someone tell me what happens now please? Sitting here in tears, I really didn't think this week could get any worse.

Ps - owner has a photo of a bite on her dog claiming it is from MIL's dog.

No previous history of our dogs at all.

She may have reported it to the police but police will not be interested or get involved in dog on dog attacks. The police are only interested if dogs attack people.

The only problem could be that dogs were on the street out of control, although given that they had escaped from the garden, rather than been on the street during a walk, if that makes sense, I would have thought the police wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Sorry, forgot to say, that she might have reported it to the dog warden, but if she has all that's likely to happen is that the dog warden might come and have a chat about securing your dogs in the garden. Dog wardens have very few powers anyway.

Completely agree with Pigs there's not a lot that can or will be done except possibly a chat from the dog warden.

Having been on the receiving end of a dog running out a garden gate and attacking my dog, I have every sympathy with the other dog owner. It is frightening and should not have happened. It is your responsibility to control your dog. I contacted the police on 101 in my case as a dog out of control is an offence. They were very helpful and spoke to the person whose dog attacked my dog. It is terrifying to be walking your dog on a lead in a public area and to be attacked by a dog not on a lead who has appeared from nowhere!

For the record, DDog is like this Newpup because of this exact scenario happening to him when he was just 11weeks old! Which is EXACTLY why the gate is closed & this was the very first (& last) time.

I thought I had left him with someone responsible! I am hust as pissed off as you appear to be, hence my post! I am well aware of precisely how traumatising this is for you, I live with the consequences daily.

You can also see from my op that I have tried relentlessly to soften this issue.

Sorry Nanny I was harsh but it was terrifying and has completely unnerved me. So glad my 13 year old DD was not walking the dog that day! Hope all is resolved.

This will be the straw that broke the camels back with my MIL. It has confirmed she can't be trusted.

You & I are in the same camp

I used to have such a big phobia of dogs that if one was approaching me I'd cross the road to avoid 'it'. (Now I see them as her or him!) I'm now such an animal lover that people take the mickey out if me.

I'm horrified that DDog did this and that MIL was so irresponsible. I can't let her have him any more and have changed my work hours to accommodate DDogs needs.
