Dogs bottom

I've a 9 year old Dog who spends a lot of time slurping cleaning his bottom. He has now made it very sore and inflamed which of course, has led to more licking. He's a Weimeraner and it's not an attractive site at the best of times. It's like the Eye of Saron. It's now has a dark brown/black ring ( no sniggering at the back please) around it and is v unpleasant. Is there anything I can do, I'd rather avoid the vets if possible, he is very bad with other dogs ( he was attacked by some fluffy bastards little things and he is very reactive). Any suggestions gratefully received otherwise I will take him to see what the Vet suggests. I can do a pic but doubt anyone would appreciate it.

please take him to the vets! would you avoid the dr if one of your dc were ill?

There can be a number of things causing this from innocuous things like blocked anal.glands or worms to cancer. Constant licking of the area is likely to lead to infection.

Get your dog some worm treatment over the weekend, prevent him from licking the area and kerp it clean and dry then take him to the vets on monday!!

Maybe anal glands need sorting out? Tho would be tempted to put some sudocream on for tonight and see if it relives it for a bit. Give him a chew to distract him from licking the cream.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of sudocrem. He's wormed so it's not that. Of course I wouldn't avoid the doctors for a sick child but if it was something that could be treated at home then I would treat at home.

No need for multiple !!!. He's very well taken care of, part of that care is avoiding situations that cause him fear and anxiety. I did say I will have him at the Vets if there was nothing I could do.

,Forgot to update

He's been to see the vet, glands emptied, injection given and topical gel to be applied twice a day. He's had a pigs ear for being a brave boy.
