Kennel cough - going on holiday

I think my labrador has contracted kennel cough (it's been going round her doggy daycare and she's coughing this morning). We are off on holiday in 10 days and she is meant to be going to kennels, so does this mean that they are likely to say she can't stay?

Most reputable kennels insist on dogs having the vaccination for Kennel Cough before they stay and would not accept a dog with the illness- as you know, it's highly contagious.

There are things that can ease it (I believe you can give dogs children's cough syrup) but probably best if someone professional confirms this... the trouble is, kennel cough can last a few days but can also last a few weeks so very difficult to know what the situation will be in 10 days. I also have a feeling dogs can be contagious for a while after the symptoms go so even if your dog is feeling better and stopped coughing in 10 days it's debatable whether she should go to kennels. Have you got any other options for dog care?

if she was booked for kennels before your holiday she would have had to have had the KCough vaccination anyway. She may be better in 10 days time as PP said but she will need the vaccination anytime you want to check her into kennels. I am surprised the doggy day care did not insist on it TBH.
If it does not clear up - you will have to rely on alternative means to care for her - good luck.

I very much doubt it will last 10 days. Mine have both had it and it was gone in 2/3 days. One bad night each- up all night coughing and then symptoms really eased after that. Give honey to soothe it's throat and some kids cough syrup.

I think you really need to ring the kennels and talk to them. Dogs can remain contagious for a while after the symptoms have cleared up so even if she's better they may no be happy to take her so soon afterwards.
