Neighbour's dog being allowed to wander the street

What should I do, dog owners?

New neighbours moved in about a month ago.

Enormous dog, don't know the breed, they open their front door and let it wander up and down the street.

Today it ran up to the neighbour's daughter and barked at her and she was really scared. The owner came out of his house and just said "what are you barking at?" didn't look at her, didn't apologise, clearly not a responsible dog owner.

It's a really massive dog and there are children playing out here all the time. I think it's bloody anti-social to be making the street feel less safe, any advice from responsible dog owners of mumsnet?

Speak to the local dog warden. It's an offence to have a dog in the street off lead and out of control.

Thank you, I'll give them a call

Video your evidence.

Hope you get support from the dog warden, before there's an accident involving local children, or dog itself.
Poor thing's not being cared for properly.

Just another thought about this Basil, if you get nowhere with the Dog warden or nothing changes once the dog warden dealt with it - they don't have a lot of power and will probably only have a chat with the owner at best - it might be an idea to speak to the police on 101 and ask them for help.

As I said in my pp it's an offence and given that the owner could face a fine it might very well be a police matter.
