Big dog gone to rainbow bridge, little dog feeling low

My big dog sadly passed away last week-twisted stomach, was operated on, but he got an infection after the operation and didn't make it. So that's tough enough to deal with. My second dog is just miserable, she doesn't know where her big bro went, and is picking up on the sadness.

Any suggestions as to how to help her cope?

I feel sad for you and your dog. My older girl died less than two months ago, and the remaining one was very unhappy.
I took her for longer walks than usual as I felt she needed my attention and being active was better for her - and me, to be honest, as the tears were never far away.
It took a month for her to stop whimpering when she woke up alone in the morning, and longer than that to start playing with her beloved toys. She's fine now though.

We lost one of our lovely hounds to cancer in January , and our girl was utterly bewildered without him , to the degree that we couldn't leave her alone at all because she'd just shake and cry , even if in another room . Being an ex racing hound , she'd never been alone , so in the end , we went to the rgt , and adopted another boy . She lit up like a Christmas tree , and hasn't looked back .

So sorry for your loss . We felt guilty at first , but we haven't replaced our first hound, we've just added another .

Thank you. I'll see if I can get her some socialising with other dogs time. Her mother and brother aren't too far away, maybe we will visit them.

Yes, the whimpering was awful,and tempting though it was to bring her into the bedroom. I resisted, mainly because of her bad bladder (congenital defect improved but not completely cured by surgery).
She wasn't clingy through the day, though.

The best thing for some dogs is to get another companion for them. All going well, mine will have one soon.
