Bloody greedy puppy

He has just pinched cooked chicken bits (including wings) off the worktop and scoffed the lot. No signs of choking or anything
Does he need the vet?

He's being really bad for pinching / stealing / chewing - any idea how to get him out of this? He's 10 months old.

For a start, don't leave stuff out. Dogs are opportunistic scavengers by nature. Don't allow access to the kitchen when there is food about. Use a stairgate in the door.

Boil some rice/cabbage and feed it to him to help the chicken bones to pass without damaging him.

You can try with toys - get him a few of them, various size and type, possibly even use them yourself to play with him. I remember my neighbour had a rope with knots and his young JackR. loved it! I think that is a viable strategy.

Er he's not 'bloody greedy' . He's a puppy who needs to be looked after properly - which means not leaving stuff where he can get it!

He had no ill effects of the chicken wing thankfully. We do keep stuff out of reach (or so I thought) except he can now jump and reach the back of the worktops too if he approaches from the right angle....

Don't leave food out. Dogs are scavengers. It's tremendously hard for them to learn to do things the human way.

The puppy is not being greedy (or defiant or naughty). That is us projecting Iyswim. It's just being a dog.

Accepting this made it sooooo much easier for me to be patient when ours was a -demon- young dog.

While I was eating dinner the other night in the living room my golden pup (5 months) created a diversion in the kitchen that I went to investigate, slipped behind my back unseen and I got back to the living room to find her thoroughly tucking into my shepherds pie, which I'd placed on a high cabinet. I am sure it was intentional!

We can't leave anything out either and have mealtimes guarding our plates from her jumping up. Sympathies.

Is he a lab/retriever?
Mine had a packet of shortbread today, snatched off the microwave in the time it took me to answer the door.

Shortbread! Doesn't even smell tempting!
