She's just returned from a long weekend with DF and DWeimaraners and had a blast but I've just plucked this tiny monster off her coat. Can anyone identify it? Will she need fumigating/vet treatment? TIA - I'm going for a lie down after some very undignified flapping while I bagged the bugger! Grin

Out2pasture · 18/07/2016 21:19

earwig?

LadySilvia · 18/07/2016 21:19

Really? Never seen one before! Off to google. Do I need to treat her for them?

Looks like an earwig
Probably just dropped onto her
I don't think there is any need, or any product for earwig prevention on dogsSmile

villainousbroodmare · 18/07/2016 21:21

That's an earwig. Not a dog parasite, just an ordinary little garden/ domestic insect that happened to be stuck to her.

SkydivingFerret · 18/07/2016 21:21

You've never seen an earwig??? They don't live on dogs btw it probably fell on her and hitched a ride

Haggisfish · 18/07/2016 21:24

How can you have never seen an earwig?!? faints

LadySilvia · 18/07/2016 21:24

Never ever Sky - I've obviously lived a sheltered life! Grin They do look nasty though!

Haha Haggis - I keep feeling itchy just thinking of it. I'm always in the garden too so I'm surprised I've never seen one either: s'weird!

I used to collect them out of the roses as a game. Even though I was scared they would crawl insider ears and eat my brains!

ShowOfHands · 18/07/2016 21:37

What?!

I see earwigs every day. I'm so surprised you can not recognise one.

They're utterly harmless.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 18/07/2016 21:55

Those pinchers can give you a nasty nip though.

LadySilvia · 18/07/2016 22:08

Maybe the birds round here find them a delicacy and snap them up quickly? Grin
