So today I've been to look at some spaniel puppies and managed to narrow the choice down to two... The all brown boy one is the one Ds wants and the other with the blue eyes is a girl. Unfortunately I can't afford both :-(

What I meant to add was which one would you choose?

Both

Sleeperandthespindle · 10/07/2016 21:16

I don't like blue eyes, so it'd be brown guy for me. Don't get both.

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2016 21:16

How long have you been looking? What makes you want this breed? (Want to work it etc?!)
Have you been on a waiting list/are you certain they aren't puppy farmed?

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2016 21:16

And FGS don't get both. Litter mates shouldn't go together.

dudsville · 10/07/2016 21:18

Gawd, I can't look two puppies in the eyes and CHOOSE between them!

FortyFacedFuckers · 10/07/2016 21:22

They are both cute but I am really drawn to the one with the blue eyes.

NigellasGuest · 10/07/2016 21:22

oh, I'm interested why litter mates shouldn't go together?

Impossible to choose- they are both adorable!

I had to choose between two cockers - but it was made easy because the breeder told me which one would be best to take. She seemed to think he would be easier to train than his brother. All I can say is, the other one must have been the world's worst to train!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 10/07/2016 21:24

just get the dark one, then you will only have the throw out all the light coloured things in your wardrobe.

TrionicLettuce · 10/07/2016 21:28

Definitely not both!! Just google "littermate syndrome".

The breeder should be able to steer you towards the one which will be the most suitable for your family. Has the breeder narrowed it down to these two for you?

Floralnomad · 10/07/2016 21:32

The brown one is way more gorgeous .

traviata · 10/07/2016 21:32

spaniels in rescue needing homes - have you considered rescuing a dog instead of getting a puppy?

ReturnoftheWhack · 10/07/2016 21:38

It's all so fucking wank here these days. It was a simple question - which puppy do you prefer?

OP, I prefer the one with blue eyes.

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2016 21:39

It's not "wank" to ask that the OP has done some HW and is not buying a puppy farmed dog. Or getting a breed they have no idea about.

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2016 21:40

Brown one is gorgeous!

SeemsLegit · 10/07/2016 21:41

If the op wanted a rescue she wouldn't be asking about which puppy she should get!

The brown one!

Queenbean · 10/07/2016 21:42

The one with blue eyes is gorgeous.

OP, just to add to the boring voices on this thread ;) Have you done a lot of research on to this, the breed, is it right for you? Will you or someone else always be at home with the dog?

ReturnoftheWhack · 10/07/2016 21:42

Stop being so patronising that she hadn't considered all those issues. It's naff all to do with you actually. They didn't ask how to choose a reputable breeder - just which is cuter. Simple enough question.

mineofuselessinformation · 10/07/2016 21:47

The blue-eyed one. Prettier colouring and IME, (no clue why so don't ask me, but my family have had a lot of spaniels!) they are more 'pleasing' obedient dogs.

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2016 21:47

Puppy farmers are being bloody sneaky. They rent houses to make it look like the puppy is home bred. They put the pups with an adult bitch to make it look like you are seeing it with the mother.

tabulahrasa · 10/07/2016 21:50

Appearance is pretty much the last thing I'd be picking on, besides, all puppies are cute.

What are their personalities like? Are you after a calmer one or a busier one? Which is the breeder saying would suit? Do you want a boy or a girl?

Ditsy4 · 10/07/2016 21:53

If your DS wants the chocolate one couldn't you let him have that one. They are both gorgeous but I would chose choc one. He looks well grown. She is sweet though.

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2016 21:54

Tabula. That's why I asked about what they wanted the dog for. Pet or working dog.

nooka · 10/07/2016 21:57

Wouldn't you choose based on character? Seems a bit weird to ask a bunch of strangers to pick based on a single photo. That might be OK for a dress or a cuddly toy but not for a dog surely?

Having said that we got our dog from a rescue and aside from our home check they didn't really give us any guidance as to the nature of the pups or which one might suit us. Although perhaps that's because they had no idea as to the breed of the father (guesses ranged from rottie to terrier!).

Jeremysfavouriteaunt · 10/07/2016 22:01

return but it's okay for you to be rude?

So what if people feel patronised, if everyone minded their own business then puppy farms would be even more prolific than they are already.
Posters come on here every day and don't care where they get them from or what miserable hell the mothers are going through. They are still buying them for Christmas presents and then posting six months later to ask about re homing.

Lots of the busybodies on here are trying to improve the lives of animals, stop rescues overflowing even more and couldn't care less how 'pretty' a living creature looks.
