Puppy distracted by collar jangling - new collar or will she get used to it?

My pup is 8 weeks old and I've started introducing her collar just for 10 mins at a time but whilst she's wearing it she is really distracted by the metal d ring (that you attach a lead to) - I got one with a plastic clip so it's easy to take on and off but didn't realise it would jangle as much! Will she get used to it or shall I look for a collar that doesn't make as much noise? Any recommendations?

Don't worry, she'll get used to it. She's at that magical age where absolutely anything and everything is the best toy ever. Chuffpup hadn't worn a collar until she was about 11 weeks old and we went through the same thing.

Indigo I would have a good supply of ur pups favourite treats and every time you put the collar on give a very small bit of the treat every few seconds we only had to do this a few times with out pup and he happily accepted it - did the same when we first put lead on and have had no problems with that either.

Great thanks for that, good to know it's normal and I'm doing the right thing (I have been giving her a bit of her food every time I've put it on and whilst she has it in). Should I just put it on for a few mins first and gradually increase the length of time she has it on for her?

Have to admit once my puppies have had their collar on it stays on - mainly because of the risk of them going missing without it. But maybe having the collar reintroduced to your puppy is making it seem exciting instead of normal?

For collars, when you buy the next size up I'd try to avoid a plastic clip and go for a metal fixing. I've had a plastic clip fail me before. Also, if she really can't stand the jangling sound there is a silencer you can attach which is usually used for gundogs.

Enjoy her, they grow up way too quickly!

It's normal. Once that Coller went on though it stayed on. Took her about a day before she got used to it being there. First few times at the water bowl and food bowl were fun.... But greedy Pug syndrome soon pushed her through her issues. Don't feel guilty with the sad puppy face either ;)

Here she is! I've taken your advice and left her collar on and she has got used to it. I got her an ID tag today that jangles and she's fine with that too!

Schnauzers are fab. Ours is 18 months old now, and I don't know what I did without him!

No I find I'm not getting much done because I'm just cuddling her or playing with her! She's a cutie!
