How ill is my dog going to get?

About half an hour ago I let the dog into the yard to discover a half eaten (by birds) small fat ball. DDog ate most of the rest of it. I got some off her but not all of it.

The vet tells me that she will be ill and that if I am worried to call them again, but that she doesn't need to be seen unless there is mucus, blood or if she is really really unwell.

This is going to be really messy isn't it?

I can't bend down at the moment either so if she is ill in the house I'll have to leave it until dh gets home in a couple of hours.

This is why the bird feeder and the area around it is fenced off. Bloody birds. Bloody dogs.

HAve you got a chair to sit on in the garden? I'd sit in the garden and not let her in the house

My old boy hoovered up half a box of fat balls in a local pet shop. He was fine. But he did have a cast iron stomach. You should have seen some of things he consumed during his lifetime. Never even had the good grace to be sick.

At worst, your dog might vomit or have a bit of diarohhea but most dogs consume way worse than half a fat ball at some point. Unless she's very tiny or of a delicate constitution or has general digestive problems, I doubt it will cause her much trouble.

What breed is DDog?

My 7 month old retreiver ate a whole tub of margarine a few weeks ago.
Called vet and got told the same advice as you, that there was going to be a lot of diarrhoea and that if I'd called them sooner they'd have told me to come in so they could make him sick

I was wailing very anxious!

He was sick twice, did a v yellow runny poo, and that was it.

There's still hope!

Its raining and I've just had major surgery (well 2 weeks ago) so I'm staying comfy until I have no other choice. Dh said he will try and get back quickly and that he'll clean up any mess.

I will keep her on the laminate once she moves. She is currently fast asleep.

She is a 6kg miniuate poodle, who has form for eating stuff she shouldn't! A few months ago she ate a wetwipe she found in the park, the vet had to make her sick and she still hasn't forgiven them.

How long do you think it will take for her to be ill? It's been an hour and she's still asleep.

Eating a large amount of fat can trigger pancreatitis in dogs. Keep a close eye. This happened to one of mine and he was very poorly and had to have a very low fat diet afterwards indefinitely.

DDog appears to be constipated This isn't a sign of something awful is it? Constipation happens often ish for ddog depending on what she has eaten so its not unusual. She did empty her bowels, just took her time and it was like rabbit droppings.

Is she drinking ok?

Yes, she's drinking as normal.

She hasn't been ill. Maybe we were lucky?!

I also think she will be fine given how long its been since she ate it. I was really thought it would make her ill.
