Canaural ear drops

Hi my pup has had the above ear drops and they have made his fur very greasy I have washed him twice over the last few days with his normal puppy shampoo but it's not taking it away. Is there any other shampoo I should try?

DDog has just finished a course of Canaural for ear mites and her ears are horribly greasy too. She's a spaniel so now has long, greasy floppy ears

She had a swim in the river today but it hasn't made any difference, so I think I'll have a go tomorrow with baby shampoo and see if it works. I've used it on her before & it doesn't irritate her skin.

Hi Drama I've just tried baby shampoo and it didn't work. I'm tempted to try fairy liquid but worried it will irritate him.

I haven't got round to cleaning DDog's ears yet today. I might have to rethink trying with baby shampoo if it didn't work for you. I'd be worried about fairy liquid being too harsh as well.

Maybe someone else will come along with an idea?

I'm hoping so also maybe to suggest something other than canaural as think spaniel ears are very prone to this wouldn't like to use it again.

I had a westie with flopped ears who was very prone to ear infections. I kept the Canaural bottle and refilled it with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar (warm water ideally).
Kept his ears beautifully clean and I found it much better than Canaural.

Hi we have spaniels and don't use canural any longer because of the greasiness which also encourages a yeasty environment. I now use Care + Witch Hazel which seems to work a treat (using plastic syringe). Because it's an astringent it encourages the ear canal to dry as well. We squirt done in gently and massage the ear underneath and as per usual get dog to shake so we can wipe and do this as needed.

Oh for washing we found Neem shampoo works well to get rid of greasiness. We buy it online in 5 litre containers that we decant into small pump containers.

Thanks monkeys I bought some surcare washing up liquid and used that and it has got his ears back to normal with no ill effect on his skin thankfully only used a very small amount though.

Canaural is desperately oily. A careful wash with washing up liquid, which is after all designed to cut through grease, will remove it from the skin once treatment is finished.
Remember that it is a veterinary medicine and it is so important to finish the course and not to use a dab now and again, or you will set up your animal for miserable recurring problems.

Do you mean Canaural (the antibiotic ear drops) or Cleanaural the cleaner?? You should be using a cleaner in conjunction with any antibiotic drops. Another brand of cleaner is epiotic.
