Goodbye Darcey :-(

Our dear old Darcey was PTS this morning. I am feeling so very sad but know it was what was best for her. It's been an awful year so far as we only said goodbye to our other dog Berkeley in January. They both reached 16, so had lovely long lives. Trying to be comforted by that.

Sleep tight now, lovely girl.

I second that,ISpeakJive: I wish there were more lovely pet owners around, too.
I don't like to think of any dog not being loved and cared for like my own dog.
Can't watch TV programmes like the Dog Rescuers as I get so angry and upset( DH shouts at the telly).

Oh Lime, so sorry for your loss. Darcy looks so sweet and lovely. I remember you from when you lost your dog at the beginning of the year - we chatted then about Bedlingtons. Hope the rawness of it goes soon for you and you can remember her with happiness. X

You gave Darcey a second chance when nobody else did. She was truly beautiful.

My goodness. I am relatively new to having dogs and I've started by adopting two older girls so I have to admit when I see these thread titles I whimper a little as I can only anticipate the terrible loss and don't know how to prepare for it, but your post and pics of Darcey have really moved me. I hope she's resting well. I hope you finding your way toward some peace as well OP.

What a lovely story. I'm so glad that she had a happy life with you. To decide to PTS a beloved friend is the hardest decision we have to make, but it is all about love and the kindest thing for our companions. She was so lucky to have found you.

Thank you all so much. I always feared we would loose Berkeley and Darcey close together but both within 6 months has been really hard.

dudsville - well done for adopting oldies. You won't regret it. What you get back, even if it is spending 6 months or a year or 7 years (lol) with them is more than you will ever have dreamed of.

Having said that, I went for a slightly younger dog this time. Our newest boy who we adopted in February is 5 years old.

Giddy - oh, did we. How lovely. Super dogs. My beddie, Boycie, was such a poppet. Sadly we never had him for as long as we wanted. He passed from heart failure in 2009 at the age of 13. He was a super boy.

None of my babies will ever be forgotten. They each have their own little personalities don't they. Darcey was always so happy and grateful almost, if you can say that, for her new home with us. I'll always be so glad to have known her.

Sad news. We lost our dog a few weeks ago and despite him reaching the grand old age of 15 it has left a hole in our household, hitting my husband particularly hard as he used to take him to work with him every day for his whole life. We're looking for another dog now.

You have my deepest sympathies. Only dog owners can empathise with the sense of loss xx
