Help with impulsive dog behaviour?

Can anyone offer any tips with a dog who has recently started to nip at things that confuse or excite her?

For example she has always barked at the hoover but has progressed to trying to nip it while it's moving, same with the mop or hose pipe and its very annoying! She will stop if told off but will sneak up to it and try and nip it again given the chance.

She is aggressive to strangers and dogs which is massively improving due a behavioural modification programme (I will be speaking to trainer asap!) but I am slightly concerned that she is reacting to things she hasn't before?
She hasn't had a bad experience and seems to enjoy it more than anything!

Any ideas?

My lab used to do exactly that to the brush. I dealt with it by never sweeping up teaching him to "go to bed" whenever I swept up. It wasn't long before he'd run to his bed as soon as I touched the brush.Can you do something similar.

Is there anything else or is it just the brush? What methods sid you use in the behavioural modification programme?

She is fear aggressive so we are currently working on teaching her dogs and people aren't scary and won't approach her by using positive reinforcement when she sees something scary. It's really slow going though.

This seems to be more wanting to eat the Hoover/brush/hose pipe than being frightened of it so I don't want to treat her for biting it like I normally would when outside

I currently just put her outside but I would much rather she just left it alone! I think I will try getting her to leave the room a go.

Could you teach her to 'settle'? I have a fear reactive dog and now that I've dealt with his response to seeing strangers/ dogs outside I have started the same thing in the house. He reacts to the vacuum as well as people in the street. I decided the place I would like him to go when he gets reactive and rewarded him for being there with some of his food ( lab on a diet so cutting down on treats) and used the clicker. After a couple of times I introduced the word settle as I clicked. Now when he starts to react to anything I can simply say settle and he will go to his place. In fact this morning he started to grump at a car that had been left running outside of my drive and then took himself straight off to his place and looked at me as if to say 'where's the food mum?!'

Desensitisation/Counter conditioning is the way to go here. Speak to a decent trainer. It won't be a quick fix but it's worth the time in the long run.
