Just checking the microchip details on my lovely rescue and this is his description. What are brindle markings? And the only grey he has is around his face.

Lovely dog but bridle describes stripes. Zebra like. Yours is patchy!

I wouldn't say your dog looks brindle at all. I've zoomed in on a picture of my niece dog, I'm sure this is brindle, kind of mottled tiger stripey colours.

Thank you! So, how shall I describe him? New dog owner I'm not up on the terminology! And just because I can here's another cute pic!

Brindle is basically vertical stripes in a black based colour (i.e. they can also be blue or liver) and it can vary from heavy, like on the dog Princesspeach posted, to light and even have patches where there's no brindling at all.

This is DWhippet3 who is brindle but quite lightly marked.

Your chap looks tan/red and white with a black mask.

If you're interested in dog coat colours this site is brilliant.

Thanks for more info - we don't really have any idea of his mix of breeds, although his back end is whippet like and he certainly can move! So in his details I'll say white/tan patches and part black mask/face.
