Neighbour on holiday and dogs home alone

My neighbour has gone away. We thought it'd be for the long weekend, but she's not back yet so she's probably away for half term now.

Her two dogs have been left at home! They're locked in the garden. They have space and somewhere dry to sleep. It seems that someone has come roughly once a day to feed them. They don't seem to have been taken out for a walk at all since Friday. They would have been going to the toilet in the garden, I guess.

Surely this isn't right? I'd never leave my dog even for one night but perhaps one night would be OK if you know they can cope. But this long? Should I be doing anything? Poor dogs.

Unfortunately i dont think rspca will do anything because they have shelter and someone coming to feed them.

They seem OK if I go up to the gate, not crying or anything.

Are the dogs in distress? If not I think I would leave it.
It does sound awful but at the end of the day they are being fed and have somewhere to sleep.

Are you sure they haven't hired a "care for your dog in your own home" pet sitter? That would explain why they're home alone but being fed. I wouldn't be happy with them outdoors for days though.

Can you keep an eye out for whoever is coming to feed them and have a word?

The dogs seem ok. They are well behaved. It was hot over the weekend, now pretty fresh again.

It's a nice garden, they will have sheltered bits, shade, etc. We have kept an eye out to see if someone was staying there overnight but this doesn't seem to be the case. However they are being checked and fed once a day, so I agree it's not as bad as it could be.

I'll see if we can intercept this lady who has come to feed them and make sure everything is ok. At least there's 2 of them keeping each other company. We would get them out but we don't have permission and also they're quite big and strong, I'm heavily pregnant and not sure it's a great idea.

If you can, keep an eye in their water dish. It can run dry very quickly in hot weather or get knocked over.

The rspca will do precisely nothing about this because there's technically no cruelty going on.
