Should we take on this dog?

Through no fault of the dog, a family member is rehoming his dog.
It's about 12 months old, I haven't actually seen it yet but dh has.
Dh and ds1 (who doesn't know we're even thinking about this) have always wanted a dog.

We live in an first floor maisonette so house is big enough but no direct access to outside although once downstairs we do have an enclosed garden (shared but neighbours either side have dogs too).
Dh is out the house from 10am till 10pm and me 8-2 so the dog would be left a max of 4 hours alone during day.
We holiday in UK so would just look for pet friendly places in future.
We have an indoor cat so would need to see if they got on if we did take the dog.
3dc with the youngest being 5.
Good idea? Bad idea? I just can't decide

I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but I wanted to say what a lovely dog she looks like!

Could you ask the vet about the stairs thing? Describe exactly the place you live and how she'd have to get in and out, and see what they say?

georgedawes · 25/05/2016 17:49

I don't think the can go up the stairs for a while after being spayed, can't remember how long, perhaps a week? Best to call your vet to check, but I remember definitely being told no stairs whilst the wound heals.

She's a wee thing so I could carry her up and down but I'd be worried about hurting her doing that.
Will ask the vet what they recommend, they're bound to have had people in same situation before.

And thank you Sapphire. I know I am biased but she is gorgeous

She's lovely. Congratulations.

She'll need to be carried for 5-7 days
