Diet for JRT

our JRT needs to join us on a diet.

How much wet food or conversely dry food, should he get a day? He's 4, standard size,with love handles.

It depends entirely what you feed him on. Different foods have different calorie contents. Go see your friendly neighbourhood vet nurse, get him weighed and condition scored and find out what his current and ideal weights are. They can then advise you how many calories he needs. Depending how overweight he is, you may be able to feed less of his normal food and fewer treats, or you might need a restricted calorie diet food. The 'light' diets that many dog food companies do as part of their range only have about 10 % fewer calories, not enough to make much difference, but might help avoid weight gain once you reach target. Most vet surgeries offer nurse clinics to advise on weight, diets etc as a free service.

You can cut dry food and replace the bulk with carrot. Helps our dogs feel full without taking away from the total amount in their bowl

Wyld, cooked or raw? He likes raw as a treat..good chewing. Never finishes them though, no matter what size and I find yummy chewed carrot hidden under cushions, furniture, pillows etc.

I give them raw. Just chopped into slices in the food or whole as a treat
