Walking with a limp

Took big dog out for a walk then noticed at our next walk he's walking with a limp. I can't see anything in his paw. We've been out twice since and he's still pounding around like a maniac but ocassionally lifting the weight off his back left paw. He doesn't seem to be any pain. I can't get him to sit still long enough to check inside his pads. He Gould have something in there. Any ideas? Should I take him to a vet if he's no better tomorrow?

If there's no sign of any obvious injury and he's happy enough in himself then I'd rest him for a day or two and see if he's improving. If he's not then nip him to the vet and get it checked out.

Is there any possibility he could have trodden on some nettles or thistles or something? One of my whippets keeled over and refused to walk the other day because he ran through a patch of nettles Hmm Grin

Check his paw/pads before vet - mine had a mini acorn thing in his and was limping. When he lies down is obviously best time to check. Check pads too for any thorns or cuts as mine has also had glass in his pads.

He's totally fine. Still lolloping through the woods with his friends like a lunatic Grin. Yes, totally could be nettles or similar. Ok. I'll see how he is tomorrow then vet if he's no better. I really need to get a good look at his paw.

I'd have a proper look at his paw to rule that out, then rest him completely for 2 days and if it's still happening after that the vet.

Limping is a sign of pain, they don't just decide to limp and many dogs will not rest it themselves despite it being painful, so you need to stop them running about on the sore leg.

My boy randomly limps then is fine.

I struggle to stop him running about like a lunatic.

I let him rest a day. My dog walker took him out today as did I and he's still intermittently holding his foot up. I'll take him to the vet tomorrow. I might phone them now,
