Dog has eaten a huge bone..

and now keeps being sick. My in-laws gave him a whole bone from a leg of lamb on Sunday (cooked! I know, apparently they always gave them to their dogs and I am being precious)
Anyway, he has now been sick four or five times, each time there has been a small amount of bone in the sick - do I take him to the vet or just leave him to work through it? He seems happy in himself in every other way. He is a Labrador cross.(and will eat anything!!)

Any advice would be appreciated - I just can't see how he will digest an enormous bone like that!

They can digest it, my lab once ate a whole left over leg of lamb which je nicked off the worktop. He wasn't sick after though.
The most important thing is, has he had a poo yet?

Did he crunch it all up or swallow big chunks. I would take to vet tbh and I'm not paranoid about bones as I feed BARF to my dog. It's the cooked bit which is worrying.

I'm also a BARF feeder and feed raw bones. The cooked bone is a problem, I would be ringing the vet. I hope he is ok. Raw bones are fine. Cooked are not fine.

My dog ate a foot long roasted bone once. We didn't expect him to crack it, never mind destroy it enough to swallow! We were extremely lucky as he showed no ill effects until he come to opening his bowels - he passed just bone for 2 days!! We know we were lucky though. If your dog starts showing signs of blockage (not wanting to eat, not pooing, stomach pain) do get him seen.

Definitely keep an eye on him. no matter what your in-laws say, cooked bones are not good and can splinter. My mums dog actually passed away a year ago tomorrow because he ate a piece of plastic (unbeknown to us, we are much more careful now) and it got stuck in his intestines and pierced a hole in them causing blood poisoning. It was so tragic, he was only 9 months. I can imagine a piece of splintered bone might do the same thing! Please take him to the vets if he continues to be sick/doesn't poo/isn't his usual self.

Thank you all - he has been pooing normally for the past few days - I will take him for a long walk today and call the vet if he continues to be sick. I don't raw feed but have read enough about it on here to know that cooked bones are a total no-no - my inlaws had a similar debate with me about putting babies to sleep on their backs!!

I would be calling the vet for some more advice and putting a rocket up your inlaws arses! They sound proper charmers.

I didn't mean to slag off my in laws who are lovely - they just, like many of their generation, think that because they, their children and their dogs survived intact, it is all okay! I know them well enough to know that they wouldn't do it again.

The stupid mutt has caught and eaten a rabbit this afternoon so his appetite is fine!
