We have a Lhasa Apso, an ancient breed from Tibet.

He is the calmest member of the family by a mile. He is happy to run along beside a bike, goes kayaking in his little life jacket (not good swimmers) or will spend all day watching TV with us if no one goes out.

He is not yappy, he loves to lay his head on anyone's lap and gaze adoringly at them. He has tiny teeth (seriously, our bearded dragon's are bigger) and his best friend is our cat.

He is totally obedient/great recall and loves learning tricks.

In terms of looks he is like a bigger version of a shitzhu with more of a snout. He does not shed but you need to be prepared to pay for groomers or learn to clip or he will end up a tangled mess in no time.

We also looked at Border terriers (but they do shed).

We have a rescue cockapoo from dogs trust. She's been the best wee dog ever, easy to train, clever and incredibly loving. The cockapoo club website has rescue cockapoos at the moment

A cockapoo is a lovely family dog. :)

There is more info here: www.cockapooclubg.co.uk

More important than the amount of shedding is the amount of exercise and mental stimulation you are prepared to give a dog. How long will it be left?

Emptynestermum · 26/03/2016 22:33

That should have read www.cockapooclubgb.co.uk/

dontbreathesomedays · 26/03/2016 22:33

Maximum of 4 hours. Absolute maximum, more like 3 as a rule.

We have a Cavachon. She's a star. Takes everything in her stride, will walk for miles but loves just to cuddle as well. Great with kids, cats and other dogs.

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2016 22:42

But what about exercise?

dontbreathesomedays · 26/03/2016 22:43

In terms of miles covered, time, location? :)

Probably two hours a day, roughly.

A designer poodle cross isn't guaranteed to be non shedding no matter what the breeders say. If you want a non shedding dog then buy a non shedding breed

Wolfiefan · 27/03/2016 10:13

If the non shedding thing is about allergy I wouldn't choose a cross breed. You can't guarantee what you will get.
