What age do they stop biting?

Our puppy is 5 months old now and still very snappy and nippy. I was just wondering what age they usually grow out of this?

What do you do to deter the behaviour?

Costacoffeeplease · 20/03/2016 16:31

They don't necessarily grow out of it, they have to be trained out of it

We give him a toy to chew or tug on, or we do an ah ah noise and pause playing for a couple of seconds.

I have seen improvement during the day but on an evening he goes beserk and will launch himself at me. I've had to put him in the kitchen to go to sleep on an evening which he is happy with but I would like to be able to teach him to relax with us if possible.

He could be over tired in the evening and need an enforced nap - does he have a crate?

Roseberrry · 20/03/2016 16:39

Yes he is definitely over tired and won't relax. He has a crate but doesn't like it much. He will go to sleep if shut in the kitchen.

Am I doing enough to stop the biting or is there something else I can try?

Can you try and make the crate a happier place for him, with treats etc? A nice tasty stuffed Kong?
