The doghouse

Dogs and hogs

We have a lovely foster dog who struggles in kennels and is a joy to have in our family. He trains well and would fit our lives extremely well. The only issue we have is his interest in the guinea pig hutch outside in the garden. The dog goes out in the garden on his lead whilst staying here for this reason. I know all dogs have a prey drive but we had our own dog previously that wasn't really bothered by the hogs. Is it possible to train the foster dog to accept the hogs and their hutch? We would love to keep him if we could. Any advise gratefully received!

I have indoor piggies and my puppy will sniff at them but that's it. I just make sure he's supervised when he's near the cage. Could you fence off a small area round their hutch?

He can jump fences of 5ft so it wouldn't be effective to fence them off sadly. We have looked at that option. I am now looking at whether behaviour can be modified to accept existing pets within the home.
