How do small KC Reg breeders prefer to be paid?

Just a quick question.

I've posted before about searching for a family dog. Due to potentially adopting in future, we can't go down the older rescue dog route unfortunately (we've been told by social workers that the most favourable situation is that we know the dog's history and have reared it from a pup).

Due to allergies, we also need a low shedding dog, so it will have to be pedigree in order to mitigate shedding potential.

We have found a number of good small breeders for our chosen breed. I was just wondering if people could advise how small breeders usually prefer to be paid? This family only has one litter per year max.

I usually pay for large sums via PayPal and don't fancy carting round lots of cash. Do you think small breeders would be amenable to that?

I have paid for puppies previously in cash or by bank transfer.

When we were going to have a litter (bitch lost puppies at 5.5 weeks due to pyo ) people were going to pay via cash or I preferred bank transfer if possible.

In theory paypal is ok, but there are charges to withdraw funds from paypal account, is that right? I wouldn't be keen if I'm honest, as i wouldn't need that much money in my paypal account and would need to replenish the money i had already paid out in raising pups so wouldn't want several hundred pounds languishing in a paypal account being used for the odd tenner here and there with online shopping..

Is there a reason you don't want to pay by bank transfer?

Cash or bank transfer these days, I would say. If you want to pay by cheque, ensure the breeder has the cheque beforehand so that it has cleared before you collect the puppy, or expect to be turned away. I imagine PayPal could also be an issue too, due to the possibility of spurious complaints being lodged and money being refunded.

Please though - in all these circumstances, don't assume that this is just for hard-nosed business reasons, or that any suspicion is directly aimed at you. Many is the breeder who has accepted a cheque to find it has bounced, and the puppy that they have lovingly nurtured for 8 weeks is gone - this is not only the obvious financial loss, but the worry of where the puppy has gone.

We paid cash when we collected the pup, having paid £100 deposit when we first visited and reserved him.

Most are unlikely to use PayPal and now days are looking for cash or bank transfer seen as cleared funds in their account.

As above really. I've paid a cash deposit then bank transfer with the balance for both my Bernards. I like bank transfers in general, it's almost instant & without the worry of carrying a large sum of money around with you.

Bank transfer will be fine. I just don't usually pay for such large amounts and always use PayPal, but I understand now why that wouldn't be seen as convenient at the other end!

Thanks coffee. It was absolutely gutting. We were really lucky we didn't lose her and she is absolutely fine now which is the main thing. It was almost a year ago today. Over the past week or so I've had lots of pregnant pooch pictures pop up in my timeline from this time last year and it's been really sad looking back and how excited we were and how it could have been even worse.

I felt so bad at the time for the prospective owners too. We had spent a lot of time talking (read grilling ) each other, and two were really keen on the prospective litter as they had recently lost well loved dogs who were from he same lines. Several had been involved before she was even mated when we were at the planning stage, and they were all so excited and then so disappointed.

The silver lining is that we now have her niece with us instead, who is actually by the same sire as we used on our bitch, and she is an absolute delight.

Aww that sounds so stressful and sad. Glad you have her niece at least...that is a silver lining!

Interstate people pay by bank transfer, locals doing pickup generally pay by bank transfer or cash when they pick up. I don't really use Paypal and wouldn't even know how to get the funds out of it.
