Microchipping

Microchipping will be compulsory so I'm wondering what exact info do vets see when they scan a dog?

Does the scanner show the chip number as well as the name of the pet, owner's name, address and contact details?

And if it has been registered as missing, does that appear on the scanner?

What do you think of compulsory scanning of newly registered dogs at the vets? And checking of the chip and details when the dog has its booster?

The scanner shows the chip number only. With the chip number, and an authorised PIN or login, you can then access the information held on the microchip company's database.

If the owner has reported the pet to the microchip database as missing then yes, this will be flagged up during the online lookup or phone call.

For your last question I think it's fairly pointless as vets can not be expected to enforce the microchipping legislation - a vet attempting to seize a dog or report a client who goes on to receive a fine is not going to remain in business very long (and is at risk of bodily harm, in certain areas).
