We've had both our dogs DNA tested and this little girl's results are back. I am surprised at how accurate it was, the results came back identical to her sister's but the company conducting the test had no idea the two dogs are related (there was a year between the tests being carried out). I was suspicious that they best guessed the breeds from the photo you submit when you send the kit off but maybe not.

TBH I would have said pure border collie - is she bigger than a BC?

No, she's on the very small side she only weighs 13.35kg but stands as tall as quite a few of the smaller female BCs we meet.

As ever with these DNA tests, that seems very unlikely indeed! Interesting that they got the same results for the sisters though.

She is very small for a Border, so add two larger breeds in and that makes for a very unlikely mix for her size, let alone the head pattern.

Mind you, at least it doesn't include anything entirely ridiculous and/or barely ever found in the country the dog is from, as many of these DNA reports do.

Bizarre. I was actually going to say GSD based on her eyes, but then you said she was small...
I had two of mine DNA tested and am actually pretty sure it was accurate for them, but have also heard some different reports.

That's really interesting. Who performed the DNA testing? I have a mixed breed dog, his mum is a Labrador but father unknown. He's 43kg and I'd love to know what's in him.

I thought there was a bit of German shepherd too because of the shape of the nose and mouth but thought I must be wrong when I read she's quite small.

I had a Wisdom Panel DNA test done on DDog2 and although a couple of the breeds on her results tallied quite well with what we think she is the rest were absolutely bonkers.

Aside from being ridiculously unlikely (one of the breeds is extremely rare in this country) and not tallying with what we know of her dam from the rescue, the suggested combination of breeds also doesn't account for her inherited health problems.

They're good for a bit of fun (I will admit I was hoping for some completely out there results ) but I wouldn't put too much faith in the results.

It was a Wisdom Panel test. When our dog's sister was tested I was sceptical about the result but when I look at her sister I can see much more GSD than I can with our girl, her sister is nearly all black and has the head shape/eyes/ears of a shepherd. We know the girls have two more siblings who I would love to meet up with but we have been unsuccessful in tracking them down.
