Pulling on the lead - how can I stop it?

Dpup is now 21 months old. She's lovely, sociable and has a great recall. I love walking her, except for the pulling out the lead! I just can't get her to stop. I've tried just stopping dead, but she starts as soon as we move off again. Do I need a halti or similar?

She's a springer x Patterdale, and far from stupid!

Dogmatics are brilliant. My lab is terrible for pulling. Sometimes I don't mind so much as we're late and he makes me faster but sometimes I get sick of being dragged and the Dogmatic is like walking a different dog.

I'm a bit fed up with being constantly dragged now. Dh is on crutches, so I'm doing all the walking.

DH can't believe the difference when he walks the dog with the Dogmatic. Luckily the Lab doesn't paw at it on his face but my other dog does, so I just keep her lead short if she wears hers although she's not as strong and can't pull as much so she doesn't wear it as often. Just something to be aware of if your dog hates it at first.

Dogmatics are fab, but they don't teach the dog not to pull, they just stop them from being able to, so definetely still do training, with my two dogs, I would have a really smelly tasty treat in my hand, let them know I have it, then walked 3 or 4 steps saying my command (I say close), and then give them treat, after a few days, you'll be able to leave more steps in between saying command and giving treat, holding it in your hand at hip height encourages them to walk with their nose in line with your leg, as they are looking at your hand :)

Personally I don't like headcollars and wouldn't use one on my dog. I do something similar to what suz1rr suggests. Get their attention with a treat, and then gradually increase the number of steps between reinforcement. It works but you need to be consistent.

We have gundogs who trot beautifully in the vicinity of "heel" when off the lead but pull like creatures possessed on the lead

Now I'm a pretty good dog trainer all in all but, try as I might I cannot get the fecking animals to walk nicely on the lead together (alone they're OK) This meant I ended up doing separate walks if DH wasn't with me as I have three dogs so couldn't leave one home alone.

In desperation I bought figure of 8 leads and it's fairly safe to say, the difference is life changing. True I may not have solved the actual root of the problem but walks are pleasant, we can all go together and I therefore struggle to get het up at any accusations of laziness or poor training :)

That dogmatic site is terrible! I tried to look at the products but couldn't find any? The favourites doesn't work because obviously nothing has been selected, same with checkout.searched my dogs reed and came across the sizing guide, but again no link to buy. The site map is useless as just shows the pages in the top bar.

I would are bought one off the site, so does anyone know somewhere that stocks them rather than their own site ?

I'll try and remember where I got mine from. I had a code for 15% or 20% off too so they weren't too expensive. I'll look back through my emails although I bought them a while ago.

Found it, I got them from The Dog Lot.

Dogmatic sizing can be really strange, mine are both inbetween sizes and I couldn't get one to fit I tried them on at a shop and they said they often had this problem. They look well made though.

I went for a gentle leader in the end and it helps but does not stop her pulling!
