anyody used ultrasonic antibark device?

Have seen these on amazon and just wondered if any good. Or is there something else that is better? Thanks

Not sure what the point of it is tbh. It says it will get the dog's attention. Surely getting a dog's attention is better done by calling it.

Most anti barking devises work by either scaring the dog or hurting it in some way. I would be worried they are playing down the fact that it's scaring the dog with a loud or unpleasant noise.

In answer to you your question, is there anything better? As the owner of what is considered a very barky breed, I would say straight forward positive reinforcement training is better. You don't frighten your dog and the dog learns to understand what you require of it.

It's an aversive training tool and certainly not one I'd use with my dog. Try Dr Ian Dunbar's method - when the dog is barking hold out a treat for him to sniff while giving a cue i.e. "Quiet" or "Shush". They can't sniff and bark at the same time so the barking will stop. Hold the treat for a few secs while giving the cue and then give the dog the treat. Over time the dog will associate the cue with being quiet.

JohnCusacks suggestion will probably be better. I personally wouldn't use an anti bark device of any sort as you're not actually solving the problem that's making them bark just the barking itself iyswim?

I've just started doing something similar with my dog as she's very anxious around visitors in to the home, it's slow progress but she is improving.

We bought two once, the box type ones you put outside.

It was before we had a dog, ds was a baby and both our neighbours had dogs that barked, what felt like, all the time. Spoke to both neighbours a couple of times and they both said they'd try harder but still put their dogs out in their gardens early morning, late at night and regularly in-between to just bark and bark and bark for 15-20 minutes at a time.

Bought the two boxes and placed them in the garden pointing at each of the neighbours gardens and to be honest, I did notice a difference.

We have a dog now (and new neighbours) and the only time ours barks is one half hearted low bark when he wants in. If he did bark he wouldn't be allowed out alone.

Now we have a dog, would I use one on my own dog? No. Never thought much about it before we were dog owners, but now I know more about dogs wouldn't use one.
