Bone?

Grateful for advice about bones. Can I give my incredibly chewy Jack Russell puppy a raw bone to chew occasionally?

If so, what kind? Marrow bone? From butcher or elsewhere?

Raw bones are the ones to give and my dog has had a massive knuckle bone for 2 years! I think you need to be careful with very young puppies and their teeth, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to help

Thank you! Someone at work told me not to give bone until he's at least 9 months and give frozen carrot until then.

Our papillon has been having raw rib bones since he was about 5mths old (he's tiny, less than 3kgs and still got a lot of his baby teeth). He loves bones and they keep him busy for hours - we just make sure he isn't left alone with one and doesn't have it in his crate overnight.

Our dachshund loves raw chicken wings, only ever under supervision though. He savours his but our friend with a 'bolter' hangs onto one end to make sure he doesn't swallow it whole!
He's had them from about a year old.

dpups can have raw chicken wings from before they leave the breeder, and be extremely beneficial for them; also raw lamb necks, turkey necks.

Personally i would avoid marrow because its so fatty and rich and easily causes upsets, but you could dig the marrow out, and ddog better having the end of the knuckle cut off the bone as this has cartilege that can get lodged internally.

Antlers i've found to be a long-lasting safe alternative, and the marrow in them gets released very slowly so doesnt cause upset tums.

I would definitely feed raw under supervision to a dpup.
