JRT escaping from harness - help!

I am at the end of my tether with him! He is a five year old rescue dog, absolutely no recall whatsoever, quite timid, and very, very fast.

He used to have a Rogz H Harness which was fine, lasted 3 years then the buckle broke so I replaced it with an identical Rogz one, but found the webbing was a bit stiffer - I don't know if he finds/found it uncomfortable, didn't seem to mind it. But, he learnt to twist around and back out of the harness altogether...I think he realised he could do it because my husband tends to walk and let the dogs follow, dragging/pulling on the lead if necessary because he prefers to walk fast. I always make sure both dogs are in front, so I can keep an eye on them and don't mind dawdling while they sniff!
He seems to have hypermobile joints and can twist his legs right around, so the harness is tight enough for walking without it slipping/gaping, but he still gets it off....

You need an Indi-Dog Houdini Ultra

There's also the Ruffwear Webmaster which is a lot more expensive and can be awkward to fit if your dog happens to be an odd shape/in between sizes.

Both have completely thwarted my escape artist, they remain the only harnesses she's never got out of!!

I use the Houdini Ultra harnesses for my whippets as well as they can slip out of most "normal" harnesses.

The ones from Poochusir thwarted our dog - they are the vest kind, with a waist harness. If you fit the band quite snugly they can't escape!

My jrt x Chi is in this www.wagytail.com/harnesses/plain-harnesses/black-harness.htm and he's got a rogz h-harness he hasn't managed to get out of either....yet

I know probably going to get a slapped wrist for this but have you tried a short link (normally used for multiple dog walking) between a harness and his collar?

TrionicLettuce - That Houdini Ultra Harness looks fantastic thankyou, he (Spud) is in between sizes with the Rogz at least. Thanks to your lovely whippet too, I can see how it fits properly now...Spud's tummy is smaller than his shoulders, so that should be perfect for him. I'm going to order one now :)

ShitFacedTinyTim - that looks the same as the vest harness I have, I adjusted the tummy strap as small as I dared, 1 finger gap underneath, and he still flicked it off

anxious123 - I tried out double lead link thingy! It was too heavy though and slightly too long, so i have been using a webbing strap from a key chain with the caribiner clip to attach to lead....I think too harnesses is too heavy for him though, was meant to be a short term solution, but I haven't seen anything better till the Houdini Ultra that TrionicLettuce suggested!

Sorry, meant to say...he wears his collar fine, until a lead is attached and then he refuses point blank to walk, just flicks the collar off and gets panicky. He was mistreated as a pup before we adopted him at 8 months, that is why his recall is non-existant, despite lots of work and effort. He will come for a particular treat now - sometimes.

Rescue dogs are lovely, but hard work....our other dog a Jack Russell cross (crossed with a collie we think, collie body on JRT legs is interesting!) has dementia and obviously doesn't realise he is a dog!
