Rehoming my german shepherd puppy, help!

My beautiful, wonderful 6 month old pup needs a new home. I'm devastated. My dh has an allergy which has now caused an asthma attack. My ds is also showing signs of allergy.

I've moved the puppy outside for now, she has a kennel, bed etc, but firstly it hasn't improved the allergies much and secondly I want a better life for her than being outside.

How do I find her a loving, forever home?

I'm broken hearted about this. Ive tried for weeks now to find a way to keep her. We have used allergy sprays on her us and the house.
We wear different clothes to be with her, and shower twice daily. But it's not enough.

Gutted.

Can anyone foster for now? I know it's tough but you are doing the right thing not letting the dog live outside forever. Still gutting though.

Your first port of call should be the breeder you got her from - normally they will want to try and find a new home for any of their pups.
Or try the breed specific rescues as they are most likely to be able to find a home for her, rather than general rehoming groups

Hi chips, where abouts are you? I know of some gsd fosterers in my area (North east) who are lovely.

German shepherd rescue are really good too, please go through a reputable rescue that home checks etc as dogs like this is easily fall into the wrong hands.

Thank you so much. I know it's best for my dh, ds and even the puppy. But God it's hard. We have just been for a walk and she was the best she has ever been on the lead. She sits, stay, recall good. She's jumper and boisterous and over excited a lot, but she's also loving and caring and tender and sweet.

I have emailed the breeder and filled in a from with Gsd rescue centre. She can stay until she finds a forever home, I'm not sending her to a kennel. She's better off here where she's loved. She may be outside but I'm out there with her once an hr at least.

Doh should have thought of breeder. So sad. Let us know how you get on. (Wishing I could offer to foster but we have 6month old loony kittens!)

Breeder can't have her back as in middle of house move, but has a friend who might be interested after the loss of their own Gsd recently. I'd much prefer her to go to someone trusted by the breeder, so fingers crossed their friend will agree.

I agree totally. I wouldn't want to pass my much loved pet to some random stranger.

I have cried so much last few days. I feel bereaved already and she hasn't gone yet. I can't talk about it out loud or I sob. Worse still, I got her to help me with my PTSD. Though she is just a puppy, she has already changed my life. I can leave the house again. I feel safe with her.

I lose my beloved dog and my new found freedom.

Devastated.

Feel so sorry for you.
My mum has just had to return her puppy to the breeder, after 6 weeks. Breeder suggested it/ recommended it. My mum is truely upset.

Check of there's a rehoming centre. My sister gets her German shepherds from one (sadly too far away or she'd be over like a shot!).

She gave me hope where there seemed to be none left. A hope of a normal life. I know there will be other ways, this isn't the end, but it's the end of this.

I didn't expect to fall in love with her, I hadn't been a dog person before. I spend hours with her. We play and I talk to her and we cuddle. I walk her and we do tons of training. She's nuts when she is tired, naughty, destroys the garden because after all she is a pup! She is also incredibly obedient and easy to train. She will sir and wait while I hold a treat on her nose. She will sit and wait on one side of the garden and I'll place a treat on the ground and she won't move until I say "alright".

She's so.amazing.

They are such fantastic dogs. I'd be amazed if you can't find a brilliant home for her. (Actually I'd keep the dog and rehome do if it came to it).

How awful for you Sad wish I could afford a second, I live shepherds

I could share her info with search and rescue teams near you? we train our pet dogs to help look for missing people, but they're much beloved pets first; shepherds love a job to do so quite a few in search teams :)

They use foster homes and all dogs even if adopted any problems no matter how many years down line they will take them back

She has gone already! Met a lovely older couple who have raised Gsd for yrs. They have a farm with their son and teen grandsons and one Gsd already. They came a.long way to see her tonight, spent an hour with her and wanted to take her.

Heartbroken. But at least she has a good home.

Could you look into whether your DH is equally allergic to poodles? The large ones are very intelligent like a GS and might be able to support you with your PTSD?

If you need doggy contact over the coming months perhaps try the Cinnamon Trust? I've had depression and anxiety and the dog I've walked has really helped me.
Of course no substitute but it may help a little?

Great idea Wolfie. Have noted them for when the inevitable happens. My cross breed darling heart dog is still going fairly strong at 17 but my collie starting to show his age at 12.realise am facing awful prospect of losing both close together and long walks seem pointless without them. Sorry for de rail op. X

That is so sad. My husband is severely allergic to all animals with fur but DS and I have been desperate to have a dog for years.

Last year we bit the bullet and took my husband to see a litter of schnoodle puppies. Normally he reacts within a few minutes but didn't react at all. He picked up the puppies, stroked the mum and dad and also rubbed his hands on his face afterwards. My son chose the puppy he wanted without much confidence that he would actually be able to have him.

We left the breeder and went out for lunch locally. Nothing, we drove 2 hours back home - nothing. We left it 24 hours and phoned the breeder and got our puppy when he was ready to leave mum.

We have now had him 10 months and my husband is still fine. Very occasionally if the dog's been running around, he can get a bit wheezy but we bought an air purifier for the living room and it's worked wonders.

Might be worth you looking at schnoodles as both schnauzers and poodles shed very little hair and dander.

We have a poodle cross and my dh is still allergic (asthma symptoms). However he has it under control by using a preventer inhaler (the brown one) as well as his blue inhaler if he feels a bit wheezy. Has your dh tried that?

Mind you, if one of my kids was also suffering I think I'd probably try and regime the dog too. Hope you find a loving home.
