Does anyone on here have a three legged dog ?

I have seen a lovely rescue dog which I think would fit in well with our family , but he has three legs . Doesn't bother me , but DH is whittering on about it needing more care vet wise . Surely if you keep their weight at a acceptable level they shouldn't experience any more problems than their four legged counterparts ?

I don't but one of my friends did when I was a child. They had no more problems with Hoppy than the other dogs they had.

One less leg to worry about. If they've not had any complications post surgery it's highly unlikely it will be of any concern in the future. I Had a dog with a fused/peg leg and it never needed any further treatment.

On a separate note it did make her rather special and the focus/admiration of many a stranger during our walks. Many hidden positives and in all honesty it did make the whole experience of caring for her so much more rewarding.

It depends if its the front or back leg thats missing. A missing back leg is usually nothing to worry about. But a missing front leg puts extra strain on the elbow of the other front leg, and that can give out.
Vets usually wont amputate the front leg of a heavy barreled dog. Its the front legs that carry the weight of the animal, thats why their front paws are rounder than their hind paws.

The people that run the kennels where my greyhound came from used to have a pet tripod greyhound. She would stand on one leg and dig holes in the garden :o

It is a back leg knobbly , the breed tend to be front heavy so I would assume that it would be less of a problem . He is quite young, so fit and well otherwise .

I wouldnt be concerned about that. Is your other half actually worried about having a less than perfect dog?
