Possible broken tail?

I thought my dog was sulking last night after particularly muddy walk, but she's not quite right and I couldn't put my finger on it. But her tail isn't wagging!!! She's a Patterdale / Springer cross, and we refer to her tail as the whip. It really hurts sometimes! So I guess a tail injury isn't that surprising.

Does anyone have any clue what can be done? Vets tomorrow, obviously, but I Googled and now I'm really worried. ...

Is her tail just hanging there doing nothing at all?

It could be limber tail, especially if she's a fervent wagger and it was a particularly active walk.

Sounds like cold tail, limber tail, swimmers tail - all the same thing. It'll be painful for 24/48 hours and will then disappear. It's a bit like cramp in the tail - warmth on the base can help, and if you have any doggy painkillers in the house, I'd give some for 24 hours.

Thank you, I really hope it's that! She can wag a little bit, but it's a low down wag when normally she has a Beagle type wag.

Going to take her to the vets tomorrow, I don't want her to be in pain over Christmas.

How is she today ,has she got her wag back ?

pantsjustpants · 27/12/2015 21:22

I'm really sorry for not coming back sooner!

Ddog has limber tail from too much wagging Grin. She's on anti-inflammatories, but most definitely has her wag back. It's almost a relief to have the kids shrieking when we come home because she's whipping their legs. The vet said she's obviously a very happy dog Grin.

That's good news. One of my labs gets this now and again. It seems to be sore for a day or two, then gradually gets better. I try to keep him out of situations that make him wag too much for a few days!
