We used to put large stones in my lab's bowl, she had to pick around them rather than trying to inhale the food in one go.

Have a look on amazon for a slow feed bowl.
They are brilliant.

Slow feed bowl or feed by hand.

Treat ball or cube, kong for wet or wet-mix food, takes longer, more fun, spares sanity.

We recommend slow-feeding bowls for dogs that inhale their food. This one or similar: www.amazon.co.uk/Dogit-Go-Slow-Anti-Gulp-Medium-Black/dp/B0032GG5Z8

We had this problem with our pup, we alternated between a kong wobbler, scattering the kibble across the garden and just putting a couple of tennis balls in her bowl with the food.

Pets at Home do anti-gulp bowls as well

Slow feed bowl worked really well for us.
