Mud, mud and more mud

Hello what footwear do people recommend for walking dogs in the lovely wet Autumn weather. I usually like to wear trainers but I am in wellys now and I find them cumbersome for a good walk. Also how do I deal with a wet, muddy Cavalier - any great products out there?

I've got a pair of muckers which are like ankle boot wellies with a material upper instead of all rubber. Much more flexible. Or my lovely Timberland leather boots which are waterproof, although I wouldn't go wading across streams in them.

I sympathise with the Cavelier. My old boy was a working cocker and Christ, could he get filthy. I just used to rub him down after every walk and brush his coat through and then again when it was dry. Outside preferably, or in the garage. Every three months I'd treat him to a day at the dog groomers.

Although I've just read through the review for those Timberlands and nowhere does it say that they're waterproof, which it did when I bought them, which is why I bought them.

I wear muckboots - the neoprene wellies are much more comfortable.

A hozelock portable shower is a wonderful thing with muddy dogs as you can hose them down with warm water outside.

Or you can get a fleece coat and put that straight on them - it dries very quickly and keeps the mud contained.

I wear Goretex walking boots. They're the only thing I've found that are comfortable and waterproof up to the top of the boot.

Drum of hot water with Puffa jacket zipped around it stays warm for hours. Watering can and a towel. Sluice down the dog when you get back to the car and he'll be virtually dry when you get home.
Le Chameau wellies are as comfy as knee-length runners and toasty warm.

I'm happy in wellies myself. Ddog (pointer) could do with some as well. Drying him after a walk is a nightmare! Though relatively calm for a 1 year-old, he thinks the towel is for tug-of-war purposes and leaps around trying to bite it, while spraying mud all over the kitchen .

swimming towel, stays damp between uses, removes mud amazingly well.

Aigle parcours wellies, not the ones with side buckle, nearly as comfortable as any boots.

I hate mud.

Wow loads of great replies I will need to look into them. About to get another puppy so shall be swimming in mud soon

Oh and 2 trixie dog bathrobes per dog, swap for the 2nd one after a couple of mins if particularly wet, still less hassle to dry than normal towel. Would like if they had a section fastening under stomach but wouldn't be hard to make - for anyone with any skill...

Has anyone got the towelling dog bags?

I really want one but I don't know how you get the dog in the bag?!

I wear Dublin country boots , they're really comfortable and the dog has Equafleece jumpers and a dog dry bag when he comes home . The dry bag we have seems to wick the mud off the dog as he dries so he only needs a quick brush and the bag gets shaken out , that said I have a very short haired dog ( well he's not but I keep him clipped ) .

mad , to get dog into the bag you open the zip completely and put the bag on the floor ,stand dog in the open bag ,do the Velcro bit around the neck up and then zip the bag up , well that's how I do it . My dog loves his bag ,lays in it like a big slug .

We have the Doggy Bag from the microfibre store , they are more expensive than some other makes but IMO they work better . We did have cheaper ones before .

I have a pair of Ilse Jacobsen boots from Sarah Raven.

They are warm, comfy, will lace up over any trousers, eye-wateringly expensive but stylish and waterproof.

And for the mud magnet (aka Chigley the WCS) lots of very old towels and a separate washer dryer just for his stuff!!

Floral do you get ddog to just walk in to it? Have a labrador so picking him up to put him in it could be a challenge

Mine walks on to it at the front door and then I pick him up and move him to a convenient drying spot ,he's a patterdale x and only 13 kg ,if he was too big to move I'd just put him in it at aforementioned convenient spot .
