Wondered if anyone could put into words how having a dog makes them feel to help me understand as someone who has never had one

They're a huge commitment but...

They give undivided, unquestioning love and they ask for very little in return except for food, warmth and comfort.

Trust, mine trust me more than anyone has ever trusted me.

I got home after a night shift this morning, I'd been awake for 25 hours and I was greeted by two hounds that were so pleased to see me. I slipped there leads on and took them for a long walk before we came home to chill and they were just so happy to be out. It's a regular walk, one we do most days but every day is a new adventure for them. They treat each walk as if it were there first. I have to go out, even on days I don't really want to, on days when I could slip in to a dark place they show me that there are simple things in life to be happy about. Our spaniel had a rough start in life, kicked out as a puppy he found himself as a stray, we think he's been treated unkindly in the past yet he still loves people and now he is settled he is so grateful for everything he has.

Between them they make us laugh, the collie is very clever and sets the spaniel up for trouble and he falls for it...every time. Every day they make me laugh.
