Darling SconeDog (black lab) was pts 7 months ago Sad.

DumplingDog (his litter sister) is nearly 13. She has been ok since he died, although she noticeably cheers up when my parent's dog (another 13yr old lab) comes to stay.

We also have an extremely elderly cat, Guinea pigs and chickens.

I promised the Dc we would get another dog - they are 12 and 10. They would like a cocker spaniel, which is fine.

But even now, seven months on, I am still sitting here having a bit of a sob over SconeDog. I miss him very much. And I worry that I won't love another dog as much. And then I worry that DumplingDog won't cope with a puppy.

I need a kick up the arse please.

I lost my Great Dane boy 2 years ago and can't face getting another yet. I'm not sure I'll ever love another like him. I completely get how you feel.

Sorry for your loss ,I would delay getting another dog in your position . My mum had 2 elderly dogs and when the first died the other seemed really down and she ,after a few months got a puppy , the elderly dog hated it and she ended up having to keep them separately unless she was there to supervise at all times . In the end she got the litter mate of the pup to keep him company and as I say partitioned the house so that she had pups in one half and cat and old dog in the other half .

agree with floral
no dog ever replaces the one that you have lost and a puppy and an older dog are not always a good match.

Your old dog likes the visiting elderly dog (oldies together Smile) but that is differant and given she is 13 there may not be many more years for her to enjoy a quiet life. sorry Flowers for your loss.
