enlarged lymph glands after an op - is this related?

My elderly dog had an op a few days ago and had a large tumour removed. He is recovering well - eating, drinking and enjoying his walks - but today, which is 3 days post op, I notice he has a large swelling on each side of his neck, one bigger than the other. They feel soft and not attached to the bone. Is this related to the operation?

The vet did say that there were no signs of tumour in the liver, but possible indications of something in the lymph gland. But this swelling came up overnight, so it can't be tumour can it?

You need to go and see your vet. Nothing can be ruled out as this stage.

I'd go to the vet ASAP, I'd be worried it could be an infection...I mean I have no idea if a post op infection would do that, but that's what I'd be worried about.

I called the out of hours vet and told them I was worried but that I had an appt with the vet on Monday.

He has had his antibiotics this evening

Do you think I should take him now?

What did the OOH vet say?

mummble · 27/09/2015 09:09

They were non-committal really. Said they were happy to see him, but couldn't say anything without seeing him. In the end I thought there wasn't much point because I'd had to lift him into the car (he weighs 45 kilos) and that might bust his stitches which run all along his abdomen.

He seems really well this morning, had a lovely walk on the beach and a paddle so I'm going to keep a close eye on him and take him to the vet tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your support Smile
