Coconut oil for skin conditions?

My dog is 9 & has developed eczema & allergies. His breed is prone to skin infections. He's currently medicated with low dose steroids to keep the itching & flares ups to a minimum. However his skin can range from dry & flaky to greasy, sore & bleeding. He has had antibiotic injections from time to time which don't always help. My groomer has recommended coconut oil, which I'm willing to try. Anyone had success with this?

I researched a natural product 'flowers of sulphur'. It's results are amazing. Along with changing Sam onto a salmon and rice diet we have seen a total transformation in the condition of his skin and coat.
