Large durable dog bed - any recommendations? Orvis?

I'm looking for a new dog bed large enough for a greyhound and small staffie X to share. I'd like it to be attractive enough to put in my living room and it needs to have removable washable covers. In the past I've spent between £30 and £50 but the staffie has quickly torn the covers as she scratches at the top of the bed and tries to rearrange the cover - I have had to buy 2 beds in the last year.

I was looking at Orvis but wondered if they are actually worth the money. The greyhound likes to sprawl preferably with a cushion for his head (I am trying to keep him off the sofa).

Orvis every time if you have the funds.

I bloody love the Orvis deep dish, but if you've got a chewer/digger then try the tough chew version m.orvis.co.uk/toughchew-dog-beds expensive but that comfortable I end up sitting on it!

TheCunnyFunt · 17/09/2015 19:41

Here is a greyhound demonstrating how comfortable Orvis beds are :o but if you have a digger then it probably wouldn't be great at standing up to it, so get a tough one. It'll be well worth the money.

My old greyhound loved her raised bed. like this

Mitzi50 · 17/09/2015 22:48

cunny your grey and mine could be cousins! He certainly looks comfy - but I am choking at the thought of £350+ on a tough chew dog bed - although if if it survived the staffie it would probably be cheaper in the long run.

simon someone else mentioned these beds as being great for greys. Would 2 dogs fit on the large bed?

I've also been told about Tuffies which aren't as attractive as the Orvis beds but are cheaper www.tuffies.co.uk/tuffies-dog-beds-shop.asp

Decisions, decisions

My dogs have Orvis (gosh the Deep Dish looks better than when I purchased one a number of years ago) and Hugo & Hennie Combination Bolster beds - this one www.dfordog.co.uk/luxury-bolster-dog-bed.html The bolster sides are really good (sturdy) and the fabric is incredibly durable. The covers zip off and insides have waterproof inners.

Here's my Berkeley in the Combination Bolster Smile

Mitzi they could well be related, my boy has well over 4000 siblings. Do you know your dogs racing name?

Mitzi50 · 18/09/2015 18:44

Half A Chance
Breeding Droopys Maldini — Redhot Princess

This is him (I think)

Ahh he's a cutie :) I see he also has over 4000 siblings :o ours aren't related. Funny how they look so similar though.

My boy is a Brett Lee offspring, his RN is Recovery Lad

I was lucky enough to get an Orvis memory foam bed from ebay - it is worth a look keeping an eye on ebay, but they don't come up often.
It was used, but in good condition and had been washed by the vendor. I washed the covers again, just to make it 'ours' HmmGrin

I am lusting after a Hugo+Hennie bed though….

PacificDogwod · 19/09/2015 08:44

This is my boy just now on his cheapy bed (milgi coats - run by a MNer btw Wink) which he loves with covered crate in the background which contains the posh Orvis bed.
I think he might be another cousin…. Grin

Also very good at not getting soggy and smelly

schloss · 19/09/2015 11:21

Similar to Tuffies try Kennelmate, I have used for long while for large breed with no complaints from me or the dogs!

Mitzi50 · 19/09/2015 11:55

pacific. - he's gorgeous. They obviously both like to lie with their feet in the air Smile

schloss and teapot - thanks for the suggestions.

I need to stop dithering though.
