Dog licking paws regularly - vets or normal behaviour?

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question - I'm new to dog ownership!

My dog is licking his paws maybe 3-5 times a day. It's normally after a walk or when he is settling down for a nap. Sometimes he gets quite vigorous and does it for like 10 minutes. I checked his paw pads, as far as I am aware they look normal, one was a little sore looking a week ago and there was a small amount of blood, but it seems to have healed up now. But he licks his paws even if they don't look sore to me.

I was wondering if this is just normal and to let him get on with it or if he should go to the vet? He is a bit nervous and don't want to stress him out with a vet check up if he is fine. He looks otherwise healthy and he is not limping (well he did a little bit with the sore paw)

It can be an allergy, pain somewhere or even have simply become a habit that you will need to break (with an alternative like an interactive treat toy stuffed with something to get at). My dog used to lick after anything exciting... to sort of calm himself down and get himself into relax mode.
