Is there a top 100 list published for dogs along the lines of the ONS baby names list?

Or where can you go to for inspiration?
Thank you

We tend to just go with what fits the breed - both our pedigree dogs names were chosen by us before we met the puppies.

With our mutt we waited till we'd had him a few days before we changed his name (he was an RSPCA puppy).

It's proving quite difficult to come up with ideas that we all agree on - almost worse than naming the children!

Think we are after a boys name ending in an 'ee' sound. Possibly. But open to other ideas too. I like Monty but the family don't agree..

What breed are you getting?

mollie123 · 05/09/2015 11:21

have had two dogs whose name ends in 'ee' which is most easy to verbalise to get their attention
my first was Mollie as that was what she was called by her previous owner
my second dog was also rescued and came with the unedifying name of 'Buck' so I changed it to Ollie (shortened to Olls) as it sounded sufficiently like Mollie if I made a mistake.
I am sure dogs go by the tone of voice and soon recognise whatever they are called Smile quite like the name Monty

What I would say is don't call him Teddy , when my dog was in the vets for an operation on his foot there were 3 other dogs in on the same day and he was the only one not called Teddy - they were all smallish , black ,fluffy crosspoos of various descriptions .

Mine are affectionately known as LBD (Little Bastard Brown Dog) and BBC (Bloody Border Collie), they answer to those as readily as to their names, Mollie and CopDog.

Here you go, the top 100 dog names.

Mine is called Scout. Although I really like the name Kingsley which I heard for a golden retriever a couple weeks back. There seems to be loads of Hershey's around here.

mollie123 · 06/09/2015 07:12

Hershey would definately suit a chocolate labrador!

appropriate names for each breed Smile

The breed would be a beagle. Family have come up with Harry / Henry, Obi, Ernie, Jango. Other suggestions welcome!

personally I like Obi - reminds me of starwars!

I know a beagle called Loki, which is possibly the most appropriate beagle name I've ever heard - the God of Mischief!
