My greyhound seems skinnier than usual, what to do?

Would you go straight to the vet, or keep an eye?

Also she is like my shadow anyway but has been super clingy lately. Not sure if it's related.

She seemed to have gone off her dry food (she does this periodixally)

Yes she goes off her food now and again but I gave her some tinned chappie I had in and she enjoyed that. Although I didn't enjoy the poos it made!

Are her teeth ok?

Greyhounds are notorious for teeth problems and if she's in pain she's less likely to eat dry food than easier to chew soft food. Id get her checked by a vet.

I'd get her checked by your vet. It might be nothing, or a little thing, but it could be something treatable now, but not if you leave it.

I'd get her checked, but it could just be one of those things. My saluki x greyhound (maybe) lurcher can start looking skinny after just two days of being off his food a bit as his natural body fat is so low.

He is vvv fussy about his dry food, but tinned sardines always go down massively well here and even crunchies they don't really like will get eaten that way.

As well as a visit to vets, you could try supplementing with tripe (frozen tripe pellets at Pets @ Home), sardines and an egg once or twice a week.

lurchers and greyhounds are built with very little body fat so if they are off their food because of age or hot weather they will look thin and bony - not to mention that they have delicate stomachs as well as suspect teeth.
you don't say how old she is (which may be relevant) but it would still be a good idea to see the vet if it continues much longer.

Thanks all. She's about 3 yrs old. I've been doing the sardine already as I often treat her to those.

I think I will take her to vets to rule stuff like teeth out as I will only worry otherwise but I agree they look poorly skinny so quickly when they are skinny to begin with. Thanks all.

I'm in a similar boat with our 2 yo greyhound who just will not gain weight - he is still his racing weight after 4 months of being fed and exercised as a pet.

He has been checked out - teeth and guts ok, wormed regularly; vet is happy.
She recommended 'Barking Heads' dog food or 'Hill's' - i've not tried either but will look at them (I only spoke to her today and she said she and the same problem with her rescue greyhound ).

I suppose if she is happy and full of energy and poops in the usual manner, all should be well, hopefully.

my lurcher who is 11 has this :
Supadog Adult Complete Dry Dog Food for Greyhounds and Lurchers by Burgess mixed with a little Chappie and he is doing well on it
I found rich dog food and most of the Bakers dry dog food too much for his digestion and gave him the squits
more expensive is not necessarily best and each dog is differant.

We have three whippets and their weight tends to go up and down. I feed accordingly so bit more if looking thin and less if gaining too much.

I would get her checked out first though just to be sure its nothing health/teeth wise.

I've been and had her weighed and she has lost a bit (couldn't remember what her exact weight was but it's definitely gone down). She was wormed as soon as I noticed and didn't seem to have any, I've got her a different dog food to try and tempt her and wil throw in the odd bit of sardines or egg.

I have a day off on Friday so going to try and get her into the vets then for aa quick health check. I love her to bits so want to make sure all is okay but I think it was maybe a combination of hot weather and off her usual food.

How is she doing now?
