once your dog turns 7?

I have a GSD that turns 7 soon and I'm unsure whether it's best to change to the food for age 7 +

Is your dog still pretty active and a normal weight

As think that dicate a change in diet rather than age
If is doing fine on his normal food I would leave him

We have four senior dogs here (aged 8, 10, 11 and 12). All are fit and healthy on "normal" food and in great condition. The key thing is to ensure they are not overweight. When your dog goes for their checkup with your vet, their diet should be discussed as part of the overall review but unless there are strong medical reasons, your normal diet should be fine (provided of course it's a good quality one!)

The picture changes a bit when you have "super seniors" - it's often common for them to lose their appetite and to appreciate several smaller meals a day rather than big meals and it can be harder to keep weight on, but at 7, that won't be an issue for ages.

would agree with pp
my lurcher is 11 and still on 'normal food' as it suits him and he is definately not overweight (built like a whippet Smile)
he does not tolerate rich food so I avoid that and too much meat
have learned to give only as much as he can eat at one sitting (as it were)
