How to stop 18 month old dog jumping at visitors

My in tact male 18 month old Lhasa apso jumps a lot when visitors come - at them, bouncing from couch to couch, generally overly boisterous. He calms down after a while but it's tedious. Not everyone likes it and with our new baby in the house I'm scared he is going to jump and land on him one day. I shout when he does it to no avail. Has anyone any tips how to train this behaviour out of him? Tia.

One way is to command him to sit (or teach him the "sit" command so it is really strong). Then practice with a friend 'visiting' have treats ready to reward him. The key is practice practice practice.
While you are training him you can put him on lead when people arrive until he calms down or teach him to go to him bed.

Forgot to say but dogs can't jump up while they are sitting which is the idea behind this one.

Try the above, but if that doesn't work try a pet corrector.

While you working on his sit I'd use a lead or a crate while you've got visitors. My BIL has got a kelpie/border collie cross and I swear he's a pogo pup. He rarely has all 4 feet on the ground and bounces from person to person.

The last time I saw him I yelled NO really loudly at him then spent ages working on sit with him. Every time he sees me now his bum goes straight on the ground waiting for a treat.

It will take time and being 100% consistent but it's worth it.

My sisters dig is the same, it's a long slow process bit the dog is learning to sit to get a hello. But she forgets quickly! Bit she is better now, it just take aaaaaaaages
